Oxford Street is changing

  • Following a public consultation in 2025, the Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) has been established to drive forward the transformation of Oxford Street.
  • The first change will be seen on the section of Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, which is on track to go traffic-free by late October, in time for the busiest shopping period on the street.
  • Over the next few months, Oxford Street will become more welcoming to all, with increased seating and rest areas, good lighting, clear signage, additional trees and planting.
  • Buses, taxis, cycles and other vehicles will be diverted away from the pedestrianised area. You may see some street works in the Oxford Street area from early September to enable these changes.

TfL is running some workshops for businesses along Oxford Street to explain changes to deliveries and servicing and help prepare for pedestrianisation.

Oxford Street Community Place Shaping Panel member recruitment

OSDC has now become the local planning authority for the Oxford Street Mayoral Development Area. OSDC is inviting applications to join its new Community Place Shaping Panel, which will comment on regeneration and development in the Oxford Street area. The panel will include residents, employers, employees, students and regular visitors to Oxford Street.
