Independent Planning Committee Member
The Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) is the Mayor of London’s Mayoral Development Corporation established to lead the transformation and long-term stewardship of Oxford Street and its surrounding area.
OSDC will act as the Local Planning Authority for the area and will play a central role in guiding high-quality, sustainable and inclusive regeneration of one of the world’s most iconic high streets.
OSCD is launching recruitment for independent members of the Planning Committee at the Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) at a pivotal stage in its development.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of one of the world’s most recognised high streets. As OSDC prepares to assume its role as Local Planning Authority, the Planning Committee will play a central role in determining significant planning applications, shaping emerging planning policy and championing high standards of design quality, sustainability and inclusive growth.

We are seeking to appoint independent members to the OSDC Planning Committee to help shape this next phase in Oxford Street’s evolution. This is a unique opportunity to influence planning decisions, emerging policy and design quality in a globally recognised and high-profile urban environment.
The Planning Committee will play a critical role in:
- Determining significant and strategic planning applications
- Shaping emerging planning policy and supplementary guidance
- Championing high standards of design, sustainability and inclusive growth
- Supporting the delivery of a revitalised Oxford Street that works for Londoners, visitors and businesses alike
You will be part of a committee comprising independent members and borough representatives, operating within a transparent, publicly accountable and design-led planning framework.
Time Commitment
The role will involve:
- An initial induction and training programme
- Monthly Planning Committee meetings (in person)
- Regular online briefing meetings
- Periodic site visits as required
Person Profile
We are seeking individuals with relevant experience in planning, urban design, planning policy, regeneration, development, sustainability or a related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate sound independent judgement, an understanding of complex urban environments and the ability to operate effectively in a high-profile and publicly accountable setting.
A strong commitment to London and its diverse communities, and a passion for creating inclusive, high-quality places, will be essential.
